Readwise Reader for YouTube: highlight the transcript

Quick answer

Most notes apps treat a YouTube video as a link. Readwise Reader treats it like something you read.

What 125x is: 125x is a web app at 125x.app. You connect your YouTube subscriptions, and it gives you a feed of the latest videos from the channels you follow, each with a summary: a verdict, the 5 key takeaways, and the spoiler, plus Actionable and Lessons tabs with more tips. You read that and decide what's actually worth opening.

What it does

Per Readwise Reader, Reader is a read-it-later app where you can watch YouTube videos and highlight the transcript, next to articles, RSS feeds, PDFs, EPUBs, newsletters and threads. It also has a browser extension for highlighting the web.

Getting highlights out

Readwise can export highlights to Notion (into a Readwise database), to Obsidian and Logseq through the Readwise Official plugin, to Apple Notes, and as Markdown or CSV (Readwise docs).

A workflow that works

Save a video to Reader.
Read the transcript at your speed and highlight the lines that matter.
Add a note to any highlight with what you'll do.
Let it sync to your notes app.

Where 125x fits

125x decides which videos are worth the deep read. Check the verdict and summary for your subscriptions, then send only the 'watch' videos to Reader for highlighting. The Actionable tab already lists the steps, so your highlights can focus on the parts you want word for word.
